I just received the news about
Kim from a fellow sorority sister (Tricia Katz), and I have been
going through the information on the website. I haven't seen Kim
since college, but I have such fond memories of her. Brian, I met
you a couple of times too, and I am so touched by the effort you've
put into this site, and by your incredible love story. I am truly
sorry for your loss.
My thoughts are with you.

Kim,
Often times people enter your
life for just a season, but their impact will be infinite. Even
though I only knew you briefly, your impact will be infinite. Our
paths crossed because of the "fund", but a friendship blossomed.
I will never forget you. Your courage, strength, and humor through
it all will continue to motivate my life. Our friendship will remain
locked in my heart forever along with your sweet smile. Thank you
for being you...
Love,

Brian,
We were some of the fortunate
few to have known Kimberly. Although the setting was less than appealing,
you could still see the gift that she carried inside. A gift that
has touched us all here at the chamber. Working here is like balancing
on a double-edged sword. Most of the patients that we see in this
setting are not in the dire straits that Kim was in. To see the
attitude that she portrayed and to see the support that she received
from family and friends as can be seen through this website will
hopefully give hope to the others in this situation. For us, we
realize there is no promise of tomorrow and that we must savor every
moment of life. Her voice will echo through our halls and hearts
forever...

life breaks into pieces and some
pieces are splintered and some pieces are smooth. friends are smooth...until
the splinters set in.
and then it hurts
and then it numbs
and then it haunts
but nothing changes...including
what's in the heart...including what's in the memories.
and then it begins to warm
and then it begins to feel
and then it begins to comfort...because that was her way.
life breaks into pieces and some
pieces are splintered and some pieces are smooth. friends are smooth...like
stones in a river...a melody soft and kind and forever.

Dear Brian and the Patterson
Family,
I am deeply sorry to hear that
Kim has passed away. Kim and all of you are in my thoughts. The
display of courage, hope, and love that you all have shown has been
absolutely staggering. Kim was a a truly remarkable person and was
an inspiration to everyone in her resolve to battle and overcome
this disease. She put up an incredible fight and was battling odds
that no one should have to face.
Brian and family, I wish you
peace this Thanksgiving and hope that your pain may be eased by
the thought that Kim is no longer in pain and is smiling down on
us all.
Much love,
Berto

Dear Brian, the Patterson family
and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Kim,
I am deeply saddened to hear
of your loss. Kim's story has been a source of inspiration and strength
for me over the past 8 months during which my father has been battling
this horrible disease. In sharing your story you have done a world
of good.
I believe Kim was in my sorority
(at a different school) and if I recall correctly, one of our symbols
was an angel. From what I've read about your Kim, she definitely
seemed to fit the description of an angel. May your wonderful memories
of her keep her spirit alive and with you always.
My deepest sympathies,
Melissa Pett

Dear Nora, John and Brian, I
hope the following may give you some comfort.
"God saw she was getting
tired...
and a cure was not to be;
So He put His arms around her
and said 'Come with Me.'
With tearful eyes we watched
and saw her fade away.
Although we loved her dearly,
we could not make her stay.
A precious heart stopped beating.
Gentle hands came to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best."
Kim was the BEST.
Love, Shannon (Staub)

Dear Brian, Nora and John,
Words cannot express the sadness
we felt when we heard of Kim's passing. We only had the privilege
to meet Kim and Brian once with the Stolberg's while releasing the
baby turtles on Siesta Beach in 1999, but in that short time it
was obvious that Kim was a very special person, and her spirit shone
out and touched everyone around her. Please know that you are in
our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. May your memories
comfort you as Kim watches over you all, until you meet again.

Dear Sweet Kimmie,
I will be forever in your debt.
You have given me such a wonderful gift and changed my soul forever.
Because of you EVERY DAY I am striving to be a better mother, wife,
daughter and friend. You were an angel here on earth and I feel
so blessed and thank God every day for knowing you.

Dear Kim,
I woke up this morning and felt
like someone was watching over me. It was overwhelming. I said to
myself, Ok, Kim, stop laughing at me because I look so funny in
the morning. It was then that I realized we haven't lost you. You
will be with us forever. How lucky we all are to have your spirit
beside us to keep us strong and to keep us laughing, especially
Brian and your parents.
My mother always told me that
the only people who could see angels are babies and children. She
said that is why they get that blank stare and seem to smile at
empty space. So, the next time Brady or Macey start giggling for
no apparent reason or smile at the sunset, I will know they are
watching you. My grandfather, who passed last Thanksgiving, always
said this blessing:
MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR
BACK,
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR
FACE,
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR
FIELDS,
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM
OF HIS HAND
(an old Irish blessing)
Until we meet again, Kimmie.
Love, Melissa

Dear Brian and the Patterson
Family,
I know that no words can express
the sorrow that you must be feeling. My husband lost his beloved
cousin, Michael, to Lymphoma 5 years ago. Michael left behind his
wife and 7 year old son. Although I know it is so hard to see anything
positive in the loss of your dear Kim, please find comfort in this
wonderful fund that you have created. Last year, my husband and
I ran our first marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,
and I am running a half marathon this year in memory of Michael.
This has helped us all to begin the healing process. May you find
comfort in the beautiful memories that she has left you with. She
sounds like an angel who will continue to guide you on your journey.
Love,
Karen Ali

Dear Brian:
Although I didn't have the pleasure
of knowing Kim as well as you and all of the friend's she had, the
time I did know her I will never forget! She was an amazing person,
but ofcourse you already knew that. I just wanted to let you know
that although Kim is not physically with you, her spirit will always
be by your side. Kim will be everywhere you are! When the rain falls
it will be Kim's tears of joy falling down upon you, letting you
know she feels pain no more! And when the the wind blows against
your hair, it is Kim's hands caressing you, letting you know she's
with you. When the sun shines, it will be Kim shining down on you,
letting you know her presence will be as vibrant now as it was when
she was alive. Kim will always be alive. Kim, unlike most of us
will be immortal!
My prayers will always be with
all the family! May God give you the strength to get you through
these hard days!
Sincerely,
Jessica

Dear Kim,
Amy shared the news with me yesterday
about your marriage. Congratulations! This am I read about your
wedding in the paper. I never think of you without a picture flashing
through my mind of you and my son, David trying to do the waltz
on the stage at Van Wezel. The smiles and laughter the two of you
shared that evening will long be remebered. The Stafford's love,
thoughts, and prayers are with you and Brian.
