Before we learned that Kim's father was a strong match for her transplant, a search was initiated to find a donor.
The likelihood of finding compatible marrow is greatest among siblings. Kim was an only child, so the doctors searched domestic and international registries through The National Marrow Donor Program to find an unrelated donor.
More registered donors are desperately needed. We strongly encourage everyone in good health to register.
